At the same time, India’s victory in the war between India and Pakistan on 16 December 1971 is celebrated as Vijay Day. In the year 1999, on this day i.e. 26th July, Indian forces hoisted the victory flag after defeating the Pakistan Army in the northern part of Kargil district of Ladakh. The war between India and Pakistan, which lasted for about 2 months, was declared successful on 14th July and the war was completely ended on 26th July. Since then, every year 26th July is celebrated as Kargil Vijay Diwas and this year is its 24th anniversary.
Kargil Vijay Day- 2023: History
The heroic story (Kargil Vijay Day)of the Indian Armed Forces does not end here with Kargil Vijay Diwas. India’s victory in the war between India and Pakistan on 16 December 1971 is also celebrated as Vijay Diwas. After this war, Pakistan was divided into two parts which are called East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) and West Pakistan (now Pakistan), that is, after the victory of Indian forces on 16 December 1971, Bangladesh was formed as an independent nation.
For this reason, this date is also called ‘Bangladesh Liberation War Day’ or Bijoy Dibos in Bangladesh. On the other hand, Vijay Diwas is celebrated every year on 16 December in honor of the bravery and sacrifice of the Indian Armed Forces in the 1971 war.
However, whether it is Kargil Vijay Diwas of 26th July or Vijay Diwas of 16th December, both reflect the bravery and sacrifice of the Indian Armed Forces. On both occasions, various programs are organized across the country and these martyrs are remembered.
Remembering the Martyrs
The official death on (Kargil Vijay Day) toll from Indian troops was 527 soldiers, while the death toll from the Pakistani side was between 357 and 453. India gave its brave Captain Vikram Bana This day honors the great heroes of Kargil. Captain Vikram Batra was awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest gallantry honor, after his death. A film named Shershaah was released which depicted the life story of Captain Vikram Batra in detail and was well received by the audience.
Importance of Kargil Vijay Day- 2023
In turn, India lost 527 soldiers during the Kargil War. Pakistan’s army had to retreat from their posts on the 26th of July, and India won the war. This day is known as Kargil War Day since it became a national holiday that commemorates the soldiers who lost their lives during this battle.
