The 115th birth anniversary of Chandrashekhar Azad is being celebrated on 23 July 2021. He was born on July 23, 1906, in Bhavra, Madhya Pradesh. His father’s name was Sitaram Tiwari and his mother’s name was Jagrani Devi. Chandrashekhar’s education started from the Jhabua district of Madhya Pradesh and further studies were completed in Sanskrit Vidyapeeth of Varanasi.

After the Jallianwala Bagh incident on April 13, 1919, he joined the non-cooperation movement led by Mahatma Gandhi in 1920. In the year 1922, due to the sudden closure of the non-cooperation movement by Gandhiji, there was a change in his ideology and he became an active member of the Hindustan Republican Association by joining revolutionary activities.

Through this organization, under the leadership of Ram Prasad Bismil, the first Kakori incident took place on 9 August 1925 and escaped. After this, in 1927, after the sacrifice of 4 prominent comrades with ‘Bismil’, he united all the revolutionary parties of North India and formed the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association and avenged the death of Lala Lajpat Rai in Lahore with Bhagat Singh.
